Have a great year of the Monkey!

There has been lots of our students and staff to celebrate recently. Australia Day and India Republic Day together with a cricket match between the two countries played on our magnificent Adelaide Oval. Then quickly followed by Sri Lankan national day and then of course Chinese New Year and Lunar New Year. To make matters worse our massive festival of arts season kicked off yesterday so we will have amazing music, comedy, circus, drama and art shows for the next 6 weeks with almost 6000 performers. This year, as part of the festival, our beautiful 19th century boulevard of public buildings will be lit up with a wonderful laser light display- cant wait!

There is also a lot to celebrate at The William Light Institute. A new intake of Professional Year Students commenced this week in Adelaide whilst our Melbourne campus for the Professional Year has now received its first students. Also our first Sri Lankan based nursing course is nearing a successful completion.

What is also exciting is our partnership with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Education Centre (ANMEC) ANMEC is the training arm of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation with over 240000 members. ANMEC has affiliated training organisations throughout Australia. The first program we are partnering with ANMEC, William Light’s Graduate Certificate in Wound Management, commences its first national intake on the 29th of February and interest in this course has far outstripped the forecast. Our partnership with ANMEC will involve the joint development of a range of new programs to meet unmet needs in the nursing and allied health professional development and training market. Our next course is planned for mid-year so watch this space!

Director of Nursing Kate Davis returns from sabbatical in March. Also our hardworking admissions and administrative officer Uran Tserenjav has been admitted into a PhD program. Congratulations to Uran who will continue to work at William Light part time.

Hope you have a great year of the Monkey!

Kind regards
